'New Year's Kite Surimono'
(descriptive title)

1868

Comment - This surimono carries an edo kaku kite, and shows the a kanji character for "Dragon" (Ry¨±, ýˆ). Kiteflying was a typical pasttime for boys during the New Year's Season. The kite line lays on the ground, a small air swing to carry paper scraps or other small items into the air for dropping then from above, lays adjacent to the kite line. A poem (not read) dominates the center and left half of the surimono.
