Seven Gods of Good Fortune at the Foot of Mount Fuji
(Shichifukujin Fujisan fumoto, 七福神富士山麓)

1886

Comment - The central figure is Daikokuten, one of 'The Seven Lucky Gods' or 'Seven Gods of Fortune' (shichifukujin, 七福神). He is riding backwards on a wild boar. The wild boar has swept wildly through a gathering of rats, which represent Daikokuten's helpers. The rats flee through the air and are almost trampled. The remaining six Gods of Fortune, including three helpers watch the scene from the left. Small gifts from the lucky barrel above Daikokuten are scattered all around. Mount Fuji towers in the background, a Bird-of-Prey kite and an Edo kite flutter in the background.

Compare the additional woodblock print "Daikokuten's Lucky Draw", with additional informations and explanations.
