Kabuki
Scene with a yakko kite (yakko dako,
Å« „J). The Yakko
kite is hanging from the stage canopy, to be
identified by the black rod or rope on his upper back. The
title of this print is written in the red cassette left to
the Yakko ("Yakko-dako taira", "Å«„Jƽ", "Ordinary
Yakko-kite"). It seems to be springtime with lots of
blossoming cherry twigs. The scene with an emerging roof on
the right out of the sea of cherry blossoms, and the
emerging pagoda on the lower left seems to be the same as
within the kabuki scene of KUNISADA's "Soldiers
Dream and Yakko-Kite". Nevertheless, all of KUNISADA's
Yakko-kite kabuki prints (1,
2,
3)
share the same landscape, and all have been printed in the
same year. Maybe it's an advertisement for the same kabuki
play.
The print is also supposed to be a single sheet out
of a tryptich.
