Comment - Beauties beneath a Plum Tree, 1847 - 1852 shows a scene of three beauties beneath a blossoming plum tree. The woman at left holds a tray with a kite line winder attached to a yakko-dako or man kite with a crane crest. The woman in the center smiles as she holds out a tray with a battledore and shuttlecock for Hanetsuki, a game similar to badminton that is traditionally played at New Year's. Her companion at right eyes her with a slightly suspicious expression, a short sword in her hand.
