"Light Tower and Kites"
No. 27 of the Series

Untitled series: "One Hundred Views of Mt. Fuji"

1900

Comment - A tall, wooden light tower is the main subject. Kites are flying in the sky in the New Year's Day. Over the top of the tower are two Edo kites ("Edo tako", "½‘õ „J") with long white tails. The larger kite carries a Daruma face. In front of the tower is a small Yakko ("yakko-dako", "Å«„J") or man kite (servant kite). Seven more Edo kites are flying in front of Mount Fuji (embossed, white), another Edo kite is on the center right of the tower.

Series - From the untitled series "One Hundred Views of Mt. Fuji" which depicts one hundred views of Mt. Fuji. This series highlights Gekko's refined composition and coloring skills. Throughout the series, the beauty and the loftiness of Mt. Fuji are quite evident even in the subtle, often obscure views.
