Artist – Katsushika TAITO (葛飾戴斗) also known as "Taito-II" ("戴斗 二代") was active during 1810 until 1853. His date of birth and death are unknown. TAITO was a disciple of Katsushika Hokusai. He had been about eight years together with Hokusai and gained high evaluation in the early 1820ies. He also collaborated in the famous Hokusai Mangas (北斎漫画) as "Kitaizumi" ("北泉"). He had been working on book illustrations, ukiyo-e and surimonos. His style of painting followed more or less the footsteps of Hokusai. When moved to Osaka, he had been spoken of as "Osaka-Hokusai" or even "Hokusai's lap-dog". His long active time spanned from Bunsei (文政), Tenpo (天保), Kōka (弘化) and the beginning of the Kōmei (孝明) era.


Personal life - He was born to a Samurai belonging to the Toyooka (豊岡) clan of Ogasawara (小笠原) family in Tajima county (但馬国) , nowadays Hygo Prefecture. The family resided in Ueno Yamashita (上野山下) in Edo, and is said to have moved to Hirakawa-cho (平河町) afterwards. His real name was KONDŌ Fumio (近藤文雄).  He was buried in his hometown of Toyooka


Aliases - KONDŌ Fumio (近藤文雄) as his real name and Katsushika TAITO (葛飾戴斗) as his ga-name from Hokusai, as well as "To en-rō Kitaizumi"("斗円楼北泉"), "Dōtei" ("洞庭"),  "Dōtei-sha" ("洞庭舎"),  "Genryū toki" ("玄龍斎"), "Maika toki" ("米華斎"), "Maika Sanjin" ("米華山人"), "Maika Dojin" ("米華道人"), "Nodake" ("野竹"), "Kan kan'ō" ("閑観翁") and "Nobori-san" ("昇山"), .


Disciples -  Known disciples are Dai Gaku (戴岳) and Hokugai (北涯)
