Artist ¨C SHIMIZU Toru (Çåˮ͸Á÷) was born in 1938 in Toyama prefecture. He often signs his prints with 'TOHORU'. SHIMIZU Toru is a self-taught Sosaku Hanga artist, who has mainly concentrated on woodblock prints and screenprints. His subjects are mainly rooted in family and country life. Most of his work resembles that of of Katsuhira Tokushi (1904-1971). Like him, SHIMIZU Toru is also making his own kind of paper, thus he is able to experiment with unusual circular paper formats.

Sets of his prints include Snow Country (Yukiguni), 1971, Four Seasons in Japan (Nihon no shiki), 1973-1974, and Autumn in Paris (Pari no aki), 1974. Style is detailed and descriptive."
