Artist – Utagawa
SADATORA (歌川 貞虎) (active 1818-1845), was a Japanese
ukiyo-e artist. SADATORA was one of the a disciples of Kunisada.
Thus adopting his
ga as Sadatora. He is thought
to have been left-handed, as some of his works are signed as
"left brush'' ('
Hidari-hitsu', '左筆
'). His drawing period was from the
Bunsei period to the Tenpo
period, and he drew illustrations for gomaki (合巻,
entertainment books with illustrations),
kacho-e
(flower-and-birds paintings), paintings of
bijin
(beautiful women), and
yakusha-e (actor
paintings).
Personal life -
Little is known about the life of Utagawa SADATORA. He
was born under the real name of Yonosuke (与之助) or Sannosuke
(三之助) and Gofutei (五風亭)., and was active from 1870 - 1900.
