Criticism is not welcome and is not listened to. But in order to reassure yourself, criticism is necessary. In many of the interviews I've given, this part of my advice has mostly not been aired or published. It's a shame because it helps us all understand what we're doing at the festival!

   Kite flying is a recreational sport. The zeal to pursue more and more spectacular kites and kite events goes against this attitude. However, the organizers of the kite festival believe that only these "Guinness bests" can attract people. As a result, more and more large soft "kites" are flying all over the sky at kite festivals. Many of these so-called big "kites" are not even real kites, but are just aerial sculptures or aerial pendants blown in the air. They can't fly on their own and need a lifting kite to lift them into the air. The attitude of the kite festival organizers is understandable: the greater the audience, the greater the economic or political success.

   I recommend that you not only admire the bulky "kites", but also the tricky and quirky kites, the traditional kites with moving parts, rolling eyes and flapping wings, or the modern kites with truly advanced materials and ingenious technology.

   Nevertheless, the kite festival is also an official competition for kite enthusiasts from all over China.

   Carefully observed and supervised by a team of professional referees, all referees receive regular official education, testing and training. All in all, the organizational, technical, and financial efforts are usually invisible to festival visitors.

   Large scale festivals are not possible without sponsors, let it be commercial ones and/or political bodies on different scales. But not forget all those helping hands, first aid personnel, policemen, fire brigades and safety people, all those volunteers from schools and youth organisations, announcers, and field-organizers, etc. etc..

Do not forget those who bring colour to the festival with lots of enthusiasm from folk dance groups to musical performers. They all deserve our utmost respect.

   Do'nt forget the cleaning personnell. We all like a clean and neat environment. Do'nt litter, Show them your respect. Show how you appreciate a clean an neat environment, you learned it from your parents and at school. And do'nt you forget to follow securitiy advices.
